What disappears.

A parent says I love you. The words evaporate before they hit the floor.

We capture our children's faces on phones, in clouds we will not scroll back to. We rarely sit, on paper, and tell them what makes them them.

Even when we try — the baby book, the keepsake journal — the format defeats us. Fifty blank pages. Too little time. Too much pressure to write something worth keeping.

Yours exists for the days the parent cannot be there to say the words again.

A book that grows with its keeper.

Designed to be opened at five, returned to at fifteen, and held again at fifty.

At 5
The child holds it. The parent reads aloud. The illustrations are recognizable: a mother, a child.
At 14
The card titled “On the days you forget you are loved” finds them on a hard day. The book has not changed. The reader has.
At 30
They reread when life is difficult. They begin to understand the paintings.
At 50
They pass it to their own children.

I made Yours for my children. To give myself somewhere to put the words while I still remember them. Now I'm making it for yours.
